Artist Statement
My work involves noticing and documenting everyday moments, including social injustice and environmental factors through photography, print and found objects. I choose to capture areas of a city that may go unseen, a human’s impact on nature, people who feel disregarded. Instead of being the voice for the unheard, I want the work to give the unheard a microphone, a platform. The vision is for the spectator to think about people in their community who might be unlike them, different culture or religion, and realize they might not be that different after all. There is beauty in the everyday which oftentimes gets overshadowed; the philosophies of John Berger and Yuriko Saito have influenced how I am able to see everyday moments and capture them through art. I hope for the viewer to walk away thinking about the complexities of the human state and our impact not only on ourselves, our friends and family, but also to those we encounter throughout our day and the environment surrounding us.
